PX-608CU | Plextor portable DVD writerTuesday, February 13, 2007 Today Plextor announced the immediate availability of its new portable DVD±R/RW CD-R/RW writer. Its name is PX-608CU and it’s literally portable because it weighs only 250g and is only 15.9 mm high.
The external look of the device was also designed with portability on mind. Big and squared portable writers are a thing of the past after seeing the PX-608CU smooth and polished look. The PX-608CU is a writer designed for portability also because of its power needs. The second generation portable DVD writer from Plextor uses USB as power supply. Plextor included in the box an AC adapter for old systems that are not compatible with this feature though. The USB power supply allows the portable writer to really be a plug-and-play device. You will not have to worry about using too much power when burning because thee PX-608CU does not consume too much. When it comes to its features the PX-608CU is first class too. This portable writer supports speeds of 8X DVD±R (for single-layer media), 4X DVD±R on (for Double and Dual-Layer media) and 5X DVD-RAM. As for rewriting, the new Plextor portable drivers supports 8X DVD+RW, 6X DVD-RW, 8X DVD-ROM and 24X CD-R/RW/ROM. Lastly this portable writer also supports Bitsetting on DVD+R DL and is able to read 100 min CD-Rs. To prevent buffer underruns when writing Plextor included a 2MB buffer plus the usual Buffer Underrun Proof Technology. This portable writer uses the USB 2.0 standard to connect to PCs and laptops and comes with bundled software for the most used operations. The PX-608CU is available in North and South America with a suggested retail price of $169 USD.
